The City of Ottawa recruiting for a Planner. The Planner is responsible for assisting the public and development community with all aspects of the City’s long-range planning, zoning ordinance, and municipal code. This position works with the Planning Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals to establish and interpret general planning and zoning policies and environmental issues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist and advise homeowners, contractors, and others in interpreting and complying with zoning ordinances and other codes.
  • Conduct site inspections to determine compliance with approved development plans, ongoing compliance with conditions of adopted resolutions, special use permits, ordinances, etc.
  • Serve as point of contact for Neighborhood and Community Services; respond to questions, concerns and complaints relating to permits and processes for development and planning, including support for Development Review Committee communication.
  • Receive and act on complaints regarding zoning Inspect properties for zoning actions and maintain records.
  • Review site plans, plats, and other documents submitted for zoning review.
  • Serve as City Floodplain Coordinator

Qualifications: – An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field required; Master’s degree in Urban Planning preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of relevant experience with master’s degree; minimum of four years of experience without Master’s.
  • AICP certification preferred.
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license.

Compensation:                 

$2,322.40 to $2,554.40 bi-weekly

Residency   Regular full-time employees are required to establish and maintain residency within a driving distance of 35 miles of Ottawa City Hall within one year from hire.
