Assistant City Planner

This is a highly responsible position with professional, supervision and administrative responsibilities that assists in managing the Department of Planning and coordinates activities with the Department of Public Works.  Work involves professional planning, organizing, budgeting, assisting in the supervision of the Department and attending numerous meetings before and after normal work hours.

Prepares and presents complex reports by developing work plans, researching and analyzing data, conducting public meetings, making needs assessments and reporting findings or recommendations to the Architectural Review Board, Board of Adjustment, Planning Commission, and Planning and Public Works Committee.

Assists in preparation for and the conduct of public meetings, hearings and presentations. Coordinates citizen, interdepartmental, interagency and intergovernmental participation in planning studies and reports.

Assists in the review and development of Departmental policies and procedures to ensure that the approved policies and procedures are complied with by Departmental personnel.

This position is responsible for the supervision of Planning Interns and Planning Technicians.   This includes project assignment and oversight.  

Assists with long range planning and special projects.

Assists with the management, control and reporting on the financial status of the Department. Assists in the development of the annual budget for the Department, control of actual expenditures against the budget and periodic reporting of the Department’s financial position.

Serves as principal planner for the City, in the absence of the Director of Planning, as assigned.

Serves as representative to assigned Boards, Commissions and Committees and represents the Department, as assigned.

Interprets the Zoning and Subdivision Ordinances and Code of the City of Chesterfield.

Serves as a Project Head on principal Departmental projects and assignments, coordinating the activities of staff in completion of the projects.

Meets with the public, developers, and consultants to review and discuss development proposals and regulations of the City of Chesterfield.

Performs all other related duties as assigned.
