Sustainability Planner II

The East-West Gateway Council of Governments has an opening for a Sustainability Planner in the Community Planning Department. The position works on projects related to sustainable development principles and practices and other planning related subjects as they apply to local and regional planning.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to, research and making updates to OneSTL resources and website; producing reports, studies and plans that focus on local and regional needs, community development and sustainable development; planning and organizing educational conferences and workshops; and work directly with community organizations on outreach activities for specific projects. The successful candidate will take initiative on a variety of projects including but not limited to: watershed planning, community development, food systems, hazard mitigation/resiliency, biodiversity and green infrastructure.

The position requires a broad range of planning skills including the ability to engage and collaborate with community organizations and government agencies; the ability to facilitate group discussions; the ability to present to diverse audiences in various settings; the ability to plan and develop educational workshops and the ability to establish and foster contacts outside the agency. The successful candidate must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Other desired skills include proficiency in MS Office; ESRI products; and Joomla or other web editing software, and familiarity with social media and other communication tools.

The position requires a Bachelor's degree in urban planning, public administration, political science, or directly related field and a minimum of 3 years of related work experience. A Master's degree may substitute for one year of professional experience.

The salary range for this position begins at $46,476 annually, with actual starting salary based on background and experience. Comprehensive benefits package.
