The City of Pacific is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Planning Director. This is a Department head level position that is responsible for overseeing the planning and zoning, building, floodplain management, and code enforcement activities of the City. This position also fills the Building Commissioner role for the City. This position is a key part of the City’s management team and is closely involved with the City’s short and long-term strategic planning efforts and initiatives.
The Planning Director is responsible for enforcing the City’s duly adopted Zoning Code and Land Subdivision regulations, Building Codes and ordinances, Floodplain Management ordinances, and the rules and regulations promulgated thereunder. The Director further coordinates the activities of the Building and Planning Department with the activities of the Public Works Department, and in general, oversees the building and land development activities occurring within the City.
The Director is appointed by the Mayor, subject to consent of the Board of Aldermen. The position reports directly to the City Administrator. The Director supervises building and code enforcement staff as assigned. The Director works closely with other City staff and will accept other duties as may be assigned.
The ideal candidate will have a degree in public administration, civil engineering, architecture, construction management or closely related field. American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification and/or Certified Floodplain Manager credentials is highly desirable. International Code Council certifications, and/or the ability to achieve certifications in six months is also desired. The ideal candidate will have a background in local government, preferably in an administrative and/or supervisory role.
The pay range for this position is $50,000 to $70,000 annually, depending on qualifications and experience. The City of Pacific offers an excellent benefits package, including 100 percent employer-paid health, dental and vision insurance, paid vacation and other leave benefits, and the Missouri LAGERS defined benefit pension plan (L-6). The successful candidate must pass a criminal background check, drug test and other pre-employment screenings as may be required, prior to employment with the City of Pacific.
