The City of Lee’s Summit is a thriving, progressive community situated 16 miles southeast of downtown Kansas City. Requirements

For the Planner:  Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in city, regional or urban planning or a closely related field with one (1) year of experience.  A Master’s degree in city, regional or urban planning or a closely related field may substitute for experience.  A valid state Motor Vehicle Operator’s license is also required. 
 
For Senior Planner:  A Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in city, regional or urban planning or a closely related field with three (3) years of experience.   American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification preferred. A valid state Motor Vehicle Operator’s license is also required.

 

  • Reviews, evaluates, and provides recommendations on development plans, plats, special use permits, variance and other current planning applications. 
  • Prepares reports on development proposals and presents to the Planning Commission, City Council and other boards and commissions. 
  • Assists in implementing the goals of the Ignite! Strategic Plan, Ignite! Comprehensive Plan, Communities for All Ages, and other community and housing initiatives.  
  • Upon completion of construction activity, performs on-site inspections to ensure compliance to approved plans.
  • Performs a variety of permit reviews.
  • Services as a resource to the development community and general public with zoning, planning, and land use questions and understanding the review process.
  • Collaborates with others across the organization as a member of the Development Review Committee and serves on other employee and community organizations and committees.
  • Assists in the data collection and research associated with our long range plans and studies, prepares a variety of map amendments to the Unified Development Ordinance.
