Washington University's Inclusive Park Project: A Framework for Designing an Inclusive Park
Is there a design process that could engender the creation of an Inclusive Park? This question was posed to the four students from the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts and the Brown School of Social Work at Washington University in St.Louis. In close partnership with the Tower Grove East Neighborhood Association, guidance from the DeSales Community Housing Corporation, assistance from the social work students at the Brown School, and conversations with the citizens of the Tower Grove East neighborhood. This framework identifies elements and principles of design to be included throughout the process by continusly benchmarking the neighborhoods' accessibility and representation of their desires. This process was also informed by interviews, survey results, neighborhood meetings, literature reviews, and relevant built projects.
